Design and application of a magnetic curved disc for intraoperative precise management of suture needles

- Abstract: Objective To design a magnetic curved disc for placing suture needles and explore its application effect in surgery.Methods The designed magnetic curved disc consisted of three parts:the curved disc body,the suture needle round table and permanent magnet.A total of 40 doctors and 40 nurses(1 doctor with 1 nurse)from Zhongshan Hospital Affiliated to Dalian University and a tertiary Grade A comprehensive hospital in Shanghai in September 2021 were selected,and randomly divided into the observation group and the control group,with 40 cases in each group.The observation group placed suture needles in the curved magnetic disc and the control group placed suture needles in the ordinary curved disc,with 12 suture needles in each curved disc.Each doctor sutured 60 times on the skin model.The precision rate of needle clamping,needle clamping time,needle removal rate,needle loss rate,needle counting time and medical staff satisfaction were compared between the two groups.Results The precision rate of needle clamping in the observation group was higher than that in the control group,and the needle clamping time and needle counting time were shorter than those in the control group,the needle removal rate was lower than that in the control group,and the medical staff satisfaction was higher than that in the control group,with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the needle loss rate between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion The use of magnetic curved disc in surgery can improve the precision rate of needle clamping and the medical staff satisfaction,shorten the needle clamping time and needle counting time,and reduce the needle loss rate,with high safety of surgery.
