Abstract:
Esophageal and gastrointestinal malignancies have high morbidity and mortality.Their occurrence and development are complex processes involving numerous factors.Tumor-associated macrophages(TAM)are infiltrating macrophages in tumors, and play an important role in esophageal and gastrointestinal malignancies. This article focuses on the roles of TAM in esophageal and gastrointestinal malignancies, including promoting proliferation, invasion, migration and drug resistance of tumor cells,as well as the formation of immunosuppressive microenvironment.Meanwhile,we also summarized the application progress of TAM-targeting therapy in esophageal and gastrointestinal malignancies, such as reducing invasion, reprogramming tumor-associated macrophages, chimeric antigen receptor-macrophage(CAR-M)therapy and nanomaterials. In conclusion, the current studies of TAM in esophageal and gastrointestinal malignancies are still in a nascent stage, and more in-depth exploration of relevant mechanisms and more effective treatment methods are needed to give full play to harness the therapeutic potential of targeting TAM.
