Abstract:
The gut-vascular barrier(GVB)is a structural and functional unit constituted by microvascular endothelial cells,platelet-derived growth factor receptor β-positive pericytes, and glial fibrillary acidic protein-positive enteric glial cell end-feet.It plays a crucial role in preventing the translocation of gut microbiota, the entry of gut-derived macromolecules into the bloodstream, and maintaining the functional homeostasis in both the gut and the important extraintestinal organs such as liver, brain, and lung. This article reviewed the recent research progress on GVB,including the discovery of GVB,its structural and functional characteristics, the influencing factors and molecular basis of the integrity of GVB,and its role in related diseases, aiming to provide insights for the prevention and treatment of inflammation-related bowel disorders and damage to important extraintestinal organs.
