Effects of pressing myofascial trigger points in patients with functional ankle instability

Abstract:
Objective:To explore the effect of pressing the myofascial trigger point on the basis of balance training in pa-tients with functional ankle instability (FAI).Method:A total of 29 patients with functional ankle instability who were treated in the rehabilitation depart-ment of southwest university hospital from May to August 2021 were selected and randomly divided into anexperimental group of 15 and a control group of 14. The experimental group received the technique of press-ing myofascial trigger points on the basis of ankle balance training,while the control group using the BOSUball for ankle balance training. Visual analogue pain scale (VAS) assessment,ankle function scale score(Ameri-can Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Score,AOFAS)and Y-balance test were performed in the two groups at base-line,4-week and 8-week after intervention,respectively.Result:Before treatment,there was no significant difference between the two groups in the evaluation indica-tors (P>0.05). After 8 weeks of treatment,the VAS pain scores in both groups were significantly decreased(P<0.05),the comprehensive value of Y-balance test was significantly improved (P<0.01),and the AOFAS an-kle function scores were significantly improved (P<0.05). The experimental group outperformed the controlgroup in all of the above evaluation indicators after treatment (P<0.05).Conclusion:Eight-week balance training and balance training combined with MTrPs therapy have significant clinical rehabilitation effects on FAI patients. Balance training combined with compression MTrPs therapy has better rehabilitation benefits in reducing pain,promoting ankle function,and improving dynamic balance in pa-tients with FAI.
