Abstract:
Cardiac tumors are rare, and the majority of them are metastatic. Most patients with cardiac metastasis are in the terminal stage of cancer, and the 5-year survival rate is almost zero. Due to the low morbidity, there is no standard therapy for the management of patients with cardiac metastases. The use of palliative radiotherapy in patients with cardiac metastasis is limited due to the adverse cardiac effects caused by radiotherapy. This article reviews the practice and progress in radiotherapy for patients with cardiac metastases from the aspects of positioning, target delineation, dose setting, organ at risk limit, and side effects.
