Abstract:
The incidence of thyroid cancer(TC)and Hashimoto thyroiditis(HT)in children and adolescents has increased in recent years. However, the correlation between them remains unresolved.Although HT may promote the development of TC,the underlying mecha-nisms are not yet fully understood.Current hypotheses include the role of an elevated thyroid-stimulating hormone level, shared genetic alterations, and inflammation-induced changes in the tumor immune microenvironment. In addition, the clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis of patients with TC coexisting with HT differ from those of patients with TC alone.Given the significant clinicopathological differences between pediatric and adult TC,the relationship between HT and TC in the pediatric patient cohort remains unclear. This review summarizes recent research progress on the epidemiological characteristics, pathogenesis, pathological features, and prognosis of TC associated with HT in children and adolescents, providing insights for future studies in this field.
