Abstract:
Objective:To investigate the clinical effect of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy combined with mesalazine enema in the treatment of radiation enteritis.Methods:Forty-three eligible patients with radiation enteritis admitted to Jiangyin People’s Hospital Affiliated to the School of Medicine of Southeast University between June 2017 and December 2019 were selected and randomly divided into combined group (23 cases) and control group (20 cases) according to the methods of treatment. All the patients were given conventional treatment. Then, the patients in the control group received mesalazine enema, while those in the combined group received HBO on the basis of the treatments of the control group. Before and after treatment, the late effects normal tissues-subjective, objective, management, and analytic (LENT-SOMA) scales and enteroscopy were used to evaluate the degree of lesion, and Quality of Life Questionnaire-Core Questionnaire (QLQ-C30) was used to evaluate the patients’ quality of life. Results:After treatment, the symptom score and total score of both groups were significantly lowered, moreover, the two scores of the combined group were significantly lower than those of the control group ( P<0.05). Compared with before treatment, the degrees of mucosal erosion, vasodilation, and ulcer bleeding under enteroscopy in both groups were significantly improved, and the improvement in the combined group was significantly better than that in the control group ( P<0.05). The total effective rate was 60.0% in the control group and 87.0% in the combined group, with statistically significant difference ( P<0.05). QLQ-C30 evaluation suggested that, after treatment, the emotional function of the patients in the combined group was significantly better than that of the patients in the control group, while the scores of pain, insomnia, constipation, and diarrhea factors of the combined group were significantly lower than those in the control group ( P<0.05). Conclusion:HBO combined with mesalazine enema is more effective in the treatment of radiation enteritis, and it can improve the quality of life of patients.
