Abstract:
Colony-stimulating factor 2 (CSF-2) is a well-known promoter of bone marrow formation and hematopoietic stem cell mobilization. CSF-2 drives the production of bone marrow cell subsets, including neutrophils, monocytes, macrophages and dendritic cells in the response to stress, infection and cancer. Some studies have shown that CSF-2 can inhibit tumor growth and metastasis. In clinical tumor therapy, CSF-2 acts as an immune stimulator to activate the immune response of various infectious agents or cancer cells to enhance the activity of various immune cells. This review discusses the secretion, physiological and pathological functions, anti-tumor immunity of CSF-2, and its potential role in different tumors, in order to provide references for clinical application.
