Abstract:
Objective To investigate the relationship between visceral fat distribution and diabetes peripheral neuropathy(DPN)in postmenopausal patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).Methods A total of 100 postmenopausal female patients aged 50 to 80 years old who visited the Endocrinology Department of Huazhong University of Science and Technology Union Shenzhen Hospital from January 2022 to January 2023 were enrolled in this study.Neuroelectrophysiological examination was used to evaluate DPN.Visceral fat instrument was used to measure abdominal visceral adipose tissue(VAT)and abdominal subcutaneous adipose tissue(SAT).All the patients were divided into two groups according to the results of electromyography:T2DM group(n=53)and DPN group(n=47).The results of electromyography and biochemical tests were compared between the two groups. Results The VAT,BMI,DM duration,HbA1c,TC,and TG were higher, while SAT was lower in DPN group than in T2DM group(P<0.05 or P<0.01).Pearson correlation analysis showed that DPN was positively correlated with BMI,DM duration,HbA1c,TC,LDL-C,TG and VAT,and negatively correlated with SAT(P<0.05).Logistic regression analysis showed that TG,VAT,and SAT were risk factors for DPN in elderly postmenopausal women. Conclusions VAT is one of the risk factors for DPN in elderly postmenopausal women with T2DM,and may play an important role in the occurrence and development of DPN.
