Abstract:
Patients with Alzheimer′s disease (AD) often exhibit both cognitive and depressive symptoms, suggesting a strong connection between the two, potentially indicating shared pathological factors. This article reviews the common pathological factors underlying cognitive and depressive symptoms in AD, focusing on aspects such as genetic factors, neurodegeneration, hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis (HPA) dysfunction, neurotrophic factor deficiency, enhanced neuroinflammation, gut microbiota imbalance, and neurotransmitter systems imbalance. Further research on these common pathological factors is of great significance for future AD treatment.
