Abstract:
Misophonia is a complex multifactorial psychophysiological and behavioral disorder, characterized by abnormally intense emotional and physiological responses to specific sounds, such as chewing, coughing, and tapping noises. Misophonia has a high prevalence rate, causes intense suffering in patients and severely impairs social functioning. There is no consensus on the classification and diagnostic criteria for misophonia. This review summarizes the clinical characteristics, epidemiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatments to provide references for further clinical research.
