Abstract:
The brain is the biggest energy hog. The dystrophia and energy metabolic dysfunction will significantly affect the functions of human brain. The potential pathogenesis may lie in the mitochondria dysfunction related to cellular energy disturbance; metabolic abnormalities of glucose, lipid, and protein; thyroid function; nutrient supply; metabolic disorders of vitamin and metallic element. The metabolism hypothesis of bipolar disorder will be gradually elucidated with the further researches, and it will also provide a new strategy for the prevention and treatment of bipolar disorder.
