Abstract:
Migraine, a prevalent neurological disorder, obviously impairs the quality of life of the patients. α-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid (AMPA) receptors are ion channel glutamate receptors that are responsible for facilitating rapid excitatory nerve signal transmission. Current study has revealed that AMPA receptors play a crucial role in migraine development. This article reviews the structure and function of AMPA receptors, relationship between AMPA receptors and migraine, and its application in migraine treatment, in order to provide new insights for pathogenesis and treatment of migraine.
