Abstract:
Osteochondral lesions of the talus (OLT) refer to the damage involving the articular cartilage and subchondral bone of the talus. For severe cases, debridement combined with bone grafting has shown good clinic outcomes which depend on thorough debridement of the lesion and perpendicular insertion of the graft. Therefore, it is essential for an effective treatment of OLT to select an appropriate surgical approach to achieve precise exposure of the lesion. This article reviews the exposure range, choice of approach, procedural details, and associated complications concerning non-osteotomy exposure approaches, medial malleolar osteotomy approach, lateral malleolar osteotomy approach, and minimally invasive technique approaches related to bone grafting.
