Abstract:
Coronal fracture of the distal humerus is rarely seen and its mechanism of injury is complex. Its treatment is challenging due to the special anatomical structures involved. At present, open reduction and internal fixation is still the ideal treatment for this kind of fractures so that preoperative characterization of the fracture and its type is particularly important. Currently, there is no unified classification of the coronal fractures of the distal humerus in clinical practice. Different typing systems lead to certain limitations in treatment and prognosis. Development of imaging and computer technologies has prompted intensive studies into this kind of fractures. However, no new classification with a guiding significance has been proposed yet. Therefore, we reviewed the research literature concerning the classification and imaging of the coronal fractures of the distal humerus, aiming to promote the related research with our new ideas.
