Abstract:
Neurogenetic diseases are diverse, severe, and often lead to disability and death. They are characterized by clinical and genetic heterogeneity, making early diagnosis challenging. In China, research on neurogenetic diseases began in the 1950s. Pioneering scholars accumulated valuable clinical experience and set examples for future researchers. The Chinese Society of Neurogenetics was established in 1981, which promoted epidemiological surveys and gene diagnosis studies. After 2005, next-generation sequencing technology facilitated the identification of multiple pathogenic genes, enhancing diagnostic accuracy. Some teams also explored gene therapy. In recent years, the group has held frequent academic exchanges and developed several diagnostic guidelines or consensuses to standardize clinical practice. Moving forward, research efforts should prioritize gene therapy, cell therapy and related fields to advance personalized medicine and comprehensive management of neurological genetic diseases.
