Abstract:
In March 2021, a 46-year old patient who had a traumatically amputated hand with a disfigurement injury of left forearm was admitted to the Department of Hand and Foot Microsurgery, Xi'an Fengcheng Hospital. An emergency surgery was carried out to replant the severed left hand. The surgery included exploration and repair of blood vessels, nerves and tendons, transfer of bone graft as well as reconstruction of soft tissue defects with anterolateral femoral chimeric flap. The replanted hand and transferred flap survived after surgery. Early rehabilitation was conducted. At 9 months postoperative follow-up, the sensations of touch, pain and temperature were recovered. The wrist was in a fused functional position. Function of some digits were restored, and the affected limb could cooperate with the healthy limb to complete the activities of daily life.
