Abstract:
With a growing understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying type 2 diabetes mellitus and the continuous accumulation of evidence from clinical studies, the concept of early combination therapy has been increasingly integrated into clinical diabetes management. Compared with traditional sequential treatment, early combination therapy can more comprehensively address the multiple pathophysiological mechanisms of type 2 diabetes mellitus. This approach not only provides earlier and more durable glycemic control, but also helps delay the onset and progression of diabetes-related complications. This review summarizes the comprehensive clinical benefits and therapeutic advances of early combination therapy, with a particular focus on the evidence - based progress of basal insulin/glucagon-like peptide-1(GLP-1) receptor agonist fixed-ratio combinations as an optimized treatment strategy for type 2 diabetes mellitus.
