Abstract:
Short bowel syndrome is a severe metabolic disorder caused by multiple diseases. Surgical resection and exclusion of the small intestine leads to different degrees of nutrient malabsorption and energy insufficiency. Appropriate nutrition support and bowel rehabilitation are crucial to patients′ recovery. Individualized therapy helps prolong lifespan and improve life quality, patients may even wean off parental nutrition and recover social function. For the purpose of expending therapeutic options, this review elaborated the latest nutrition therapy and medical management.
