Abstract:
[Objective]To investigate the composition of Songya Yijing,the comprehensive medical book during the Ming Dynasty,in order to identify its literature value.[Methods]Systematically comparing the font styles,page frames,center margins and other physical characteristics of the major extant versions(Ming edition,CHENG Jia edition,etc.),and tracing their lineage.In-depth analysis of the similarities and differences in the syndrome differentiation systems across various sections of the book,examining contradictions in the author's personal information,and systematically tracing the literary sources of the formulas in Volume Ⅱ.Investigating local gazetteers,clan genealogies and other historical materials to extract records concerning CHENG Jie's achievements in pulse diagnosis and explore their connection to the core content of Songya Yijing.[Results]In terms of versions,the Collection on Febrile Caused by Cold in the Ming Dynasty edition differed in font and layout from other sections,indicating it was added by later generations;the CHENG Jia's edition was based on the Ming edition,with the name CHENG Jingtong forged in later times.Regarding content,the Collection on Febrile Caused by Cold adopted a unique syndrome differentiation system,unrelated to CHENG Jie;Volume Ⅱ mainly copied from orthodox Medical Records and incorporated later works like Fushou Jingfang,with contradictions in personal details;sections such as"Six Categories in Diseases""Map of Six Categories of Syndromes""Treatments and Medical Treatment Prescription"were pulse-based,aligning with CHENG Jie's expertise in pulse diagnosis and possibly originating from his original work.[Conclusion]Songya Yijing is a pseudepigraphical compilation falsely attributed to CHENG Jie,with only partial pulse-related content potentially retaining his original ideas and limited originality overall.However,its systematic collation of pulse syndromes holds documentary value.Future research could focus on clarifying key issues in the transmission of Xin'an medical literature.
