Abstract:
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is still not fully cured by medication or surgery. Patients with IBD face the possibility of surgery for whole lifetime. The management of the rectal stump after subtotal colectomy for patients with IBD is of great importance in prognosis, treatment, and monitoring of disease. The most appropriately individual treatment plan is developed based on multidisciplinary cooperation involving gastroenterology, colorectal surgery and reproduction to make comprehensive assessment of disease activity and prognosis, risks of neoplasia in the rectal stump proctitis, urinary function and sexual function.
