Abstract:
Acute respiratory infections are highly prevalent among the elderly, leading not only to acute mortality but also to long-term health complications, such as recurrent infections, hospital readmissions, and declines in physical and cognitive functions, which may contribute to increased frailty.Frailty, in turn, amplifies the risk of adverse events under stressful conditions, significantly impacting the prognosis of elderly patients. This article reviews the epidemiology, mechanisms of interaction, clinical correlations, and intervention strategies for respiratory infections and frailty in older adults, aiming to provide valuable insights for clinical practice.
