Abstract:
Objective:To systematically analyze the current research status, hotspots, and development trends of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)in the treatment of constipation among the elderly, thereby providing valuable insights for clinical practice and scientific investigation. Methods:We searched relevant literature from the China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI), Wanfang Data Knowledge Service Platform, and China Biology Medicine(CBM)databases, with the search period spanning from the establishment of each database to December 31, 2024.The data such as the annual number of published articles, institutions, authors, keywords and classic prescriptions were collated using Microsoft Excel 2021 software. We employed VOS viewer 1.6.13 for keyword cluster analysis and utilized the Bibliometrix 3.13 package in R 4.3.1 for annual hotspot trend and strategic coordinate analysis. Results:A total of 1 593 articles were included.Over the past decade, the annual publication volume showed a "decline-rise-stabilization" trend.Institutions such as Hubei Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine(16 articles, 1.0%)and Jiangsu Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine(13 articles, 0.8%)were the main research forces.Research topics were categorized into three major directions: classical prescriptions, non-pharmacological therapies, and integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine treatments. The research focus has shifted from efficacy validation of traditional therapies to the regulation of intestinal flora, the exploration of its mechanism of action, and individualized dialectical treatment. Conclusions:Research in the field of TCM for the treatment of constipation in the elderly focuses on classical prescriptions, non-pharmacological therapies, and the integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine, and the emphasis has shifted towards mechanism exploration and precision treatment.
