Study on medication literacy and medication compliance in elderly patients with coronary heart disease

Abstract:
Objective To exploring the correlation between medication literacy and medication compliance in elderly patients with coronary heart disease and the risk factors affecting medication compliance.Methods A total of 195 elderly patients with coronary heart disease who were hospitalized in Affiliated Hospital of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from February to August 2022 were selected as the study objects.The patients'medication literacy and medication compliance were analyzed.Multivariate Logistic regression was used to analyze the risk factors affecting medication compliance in elderly patients with coronary heart disease.Results The scores of medication literacy in elderly patients with coronary heart disease were(6.19±3.53)points.57 patients had good medication compliance,accounting for 29.2%.There were statistically significant differences in medication literacy among patients with different age,living conditions,monthly family income,payment methods of medical expenses,number of diseases and years of taking drugs(P<0.05).There were statistically significant differences in medication compliance among patients with different ages,occupied zone,number of diseases,years of taking drugs,types of daily medication and times of hospitalization(P<0.05).There was a positive correlation between medication literacy and medication compliance in elderly patients with coronary heart disease(r=0.255,P<0.001).The results of multivariate analysis showed that age,number of diseases,types of daily medication,hospitalization times and medication literacy were the main influencing factors of medication compliance in elderly patients with coronary heart disease(P<0.05).Conclusion Elderly patients with coronary heart disease have a poor grasp of drug-related knowledge,and medication literacy and medication compliance need to be improved.According to the different characteristics of patients,medical staff should take effective measures to improve the level of medication literacy of patients and improve their drug taking behavior.
