Abstract:
Surgery is the primary treatment for cleft palate. However, excessive fibrosis during soft palate muscle regeneration significantly impairs functional recovery postoperatively. Current evidence indicates that transforming growth factor-β1(TGF-β1), myostatin and denervation caused by surgical trauma are key contributors to fibrosis in the soft palate muscles. This article extensively reviewed the mechanisms underlying fibrosis during muscle regeneration after cleft palate repair, analyzed the factors leading to soft palate muscle fibrosis, and summarized multidisciplinary strategies to inhibit fibrosis and improve muscle function. The findings aimed to provide a theoretical foundation for enhancing surgical outcomes and the quality of life of children with cleft palate.
