Abstract:
Auricular deformity is a common problem in plastic surgery clinical practice and is categorised in a variety of ways. However, the existing classification method may have some limitations and fail to comprehensively cover the various types of auricular deformity and provide treatment guidelines. The purpose of this paper is to provide a summary and discussion of the currently available literature reports. The classification of auricular malformations should provide comprehensive coverage of congenital auricular malformations and acquired auricular malformations. The classification of congenital auricular malformations based on an embryological basis has been reported; however, the primary focus has been on establishing a therapeutic basis for non-surgical correction of congenital auricular malformations. Consequently, acquired auricular malformations, as well as malformations that require surgical treatment, have not been included. The combination of auricular malformations with plastic surgical techniques would provide comprehensive coverage of the types of auricular malformations, while also providing guidance on the choice of treatment. This classification method may be a direction worthy of consideration.
