Abstract:
This paper reported a case of penis replantation after avulsion. The patient was a 34-year-old male who was admitted to North China Petroleum Administration General Hospital in April 2022 due to penile avulsion and disconnection 1 h. Penile replantation was accomplished by microsurgical techniques, such as penile vascular anastomosis, urethral anastomosis, etc. Postoperative survival was good, although some skin necrosis occurred, which survived the implantation. Two months after the operation, the patient complained that glans sensation was partially restored; the skin of the penile body was insensible; erectile function was partially restored; the urinary flow rate was close to normal; and no urethral stenosis symptoms were found. Eighteen months after the operation, the patient complained that the recovery of penile function was more satisfactory, but he felt the penis was shorter after erection than before the operation. The case suggested the precise anastomosis of nerves, arteries, veins, urethra and other tissues during surgery was crucial for the recovery of postoperative function, and complications of skin necrosis and skin grafting after surgery might result in a shorter penis after erection compared with the preoperative size.
