Abstract:
Keloids are abnormal scar tissues that form as a result of the skin’s excessive reaction to trauma or stimulation. The primary pathological feature of keloids is the excessive deposition of extracellular matrix components in the dermis and subcutaneous tissue. Currently, surgical resection combined with postoperative radiotherapy is one of the most effective treatment strategies. However, there is no standardized protocol regarding the timing, specific methods, and dosage of radiotherapy. This paper reviewed existing research on radiotherapy following keloid surgery, summarizing the various radiotherapy regimens and associated complications to provide a reference for the treatment and management of keloids.
