Abstract:
The prevalence of rotavirus in bat populations were screened with primer sets targeting VP segments of rotavirus in Zhoushan areas, Zhejiang Province, south-east littoral of China, from 2015 to 2018. The positive rate of rotavirus in bat Rhinolophus pusillus varied from 6.15% (4/65) in 2015, 2.08% (1/48) in 2016, 2.86% (2/70) in 2017 and 0 (0/101) in 2018. The VP7 sequence detected was closely related to bat-derived rotavirus, showing 96% nt autoploidy; the detected VP3 sequence shared 90% autoploidy with the rotavirus infected in human; the detected VP6 sequence had 95% autoploidy with the cat-derived rotavirus. Although the full length of rotavirus was not obtained, we can also speculate that the rotavirus carried by R. pusillus in Zhoushan areas might be a recombinant strain with great potential to spread across-kingdoms to humans. This study might play an important role of monitoring and warning this virus.
