Assessing the tubal peristalsis function by shortening the delayed imaging time in hyper-liquefied lipiodol hysterosalpingography:a feasibility study

Abstract:
Objective To explore the feasibility of assessing the peristalsis function of fallopian tubes by shortening the delayed imaging time in hyper-liquefied lipiodol hysterosalpingography(HSG).Methods Contrast medium was administered to patients with infertility to assess the morphology and the patency of the fallopian tubes and to evaluate the diffusion of the medium into the pelvic cavity.Pelvic delayed imaging was taken at 3,6 and 24 hours after HSG,and the residual contrast medium in the fallopian tubes,which could indirectly reflected the fallopian tube peristalsis function,were recorded.Two radiologists having 9 years' relevant working experience explained the X-ray findings at the same time.The pelvic delayed films were taken at 3,6 and 24 hours after HSG,and Chi-square test was used to analyze the difference of fallopian tube peristalsis function.Kappa consistency test was used to evaluate the consistency of the interpretation results of the two radiologists.Results Chi-square test showed that there was no significant difference in contrast medium residue in fallopian tubes between 3 hours and 6 hours after HSG(P>0.167).However,there were significant differences in fallopian tube contrast medium residue amount between the 3-hour/6-hour films and the 24-hour films(P<0.167).The coefficient Kappa values of the two radiologists were 0.676,0.749 and 0.617 respectively,indicating a good consistency.Conclusion HSG with hyper-liquefied lipiodol can indirectly assess the peristaltic function of fallopian tubes based on the residual status of super-liquefied lipiodol at 3 hours and 6 hours after HSG.
