Abstract:
Objective To investigate the effects of health education and nursing intervention on digestive diseases of navy afloat personnel before prolonged deployment at sea .Methods From February 2011 to January 2014 before prolonged deployment at sea , the a-float personnel from the 6 naval vessels of a certain naval unit underwent medical examination .One hundred and forty-two naval personnel were confirmed to have digestive diseases by endoscopy , X-ray barium meal examination and ultrasonography , and were randomly divided into the control group and the observation group .Seventy cases in the control group received traditional treatment for digestive diseases , while 72 cases in the observation group were given health education and nursing intervention in addition to traditional treatment .All the cases received physical examination once again upon completion of the deployment .Close observations were made on the knowledge of di-gestive diseases , the recurrence of the diseases and the incidence of complications and the prevention of other digestive diseases in the 142 patients. Results The knowledge on digestive diseases in the observation group was significantly better than that of the control group .Re-currence rate, complication rate and incidence of other digestive diseases for the observation group (97.2%, 9.7%, 6.9%, 22.2%) were significantly lower than those of the control group (58.6%, 28.6%, 25.7%, 48.6%), with statistically significance (P<0.01). Conclusion Health education and nursing intervention before prolonged deployment at sea had the following advantages :facilitating those naval afloat personnel to get a better knowledge about digestive diseases ;decreasing recurrence rate and complication rate of the diseases;consolidating the therapeutic effect on digestive diseases;preventing effectively the incidence of certain common digestive diseases ;and a-bove all enhancing the abilities of the naval personnel in the execution of missions during prolonged deployment at sea .
