Abstract:
Objective To compare the clinical effects of porcelain veneer and all ceramic crowns in the cosmetic restoration of anterior teeth .Methods One hundred and twenty-seven patients ( 320 teeth ) , who received porcelain veneer and all ceramic crowns in the cosmetic restoration of anterior teeth from January , 2012 to January, 2013 in our hospital were chosen for our study .The repair materials for the patients′teeth were selected in accordance with the patient conditions of the teeth .All the 320 anterior teeth were repaired with refractory generation technology , of which 70 cases (144 teeth) were repaired with porcelain veneer and 57 cases (176 teeth) were repaired with all ceramic crowns , and all the patients had medical follow-ups for 2 years.To evaluate the effects of the 2 restoration methods on the cosmeticization of anterior teeth , the short-term cosmetic effect and long-term integrity of restoration were compared 3 and 24 months respectively after restoration .Results After repair with porcelain veneer and all ceramic crowns , good short-term cosmetic effects were achieved , with the subjective satisfaction of the treatment on the part of the patients reaching 100%, and no significant differences could be seen in the 2 restoration methods (P =0.51).By comparison, the objective satisfaction of the treat-ment on the part of the patients for the restoration of all ceramic crowns was 94.7%, which was higher than that of the porcelain veneers (90.0%), indicating that the masking effect of all ceramic crowns was better than that of the porcelain veneers .After 2 years of resto-ration, the integrity of all ceramic crowns was 100%, while that of the porcelain veneer was 96.0%.Statistical significance could be noted, when comparisons were made between the two (P =0.04) and the long-term integrity of all ceramic crown restoration had obvi-ously better effect .Conclusion Both porcelain veneer and porcelain crowns could produce better cosmetic effect in the restoration of anterior teeth , and the long-term integrity of ceramic crown restoration was superior to that of porcelain veneer restoration .
