Abstract:
Objective To provide scientific evidence for the health support of the aviators flying different types of aircraft , through analyses of urine acid (UA) levels of the aviators with high body mass index (BMI) and normal BMI.Methods Three hundred and thirty-five naval aviators , who stayed in the sanitarium from January , 2012 to December , 2013, were chosen as our research subjects . In accordance with the BMI , they were divided into the high body mass index group and the normal BMI group .Then, comparisons and analyses were made in the UA levels of the aviators of the 2 groups flying 4 different types of aircraft , as well as the correlation between UAlevels and BMI in the aviators flying the same type of aircraft. Results (1)The UAlevels of the high BMI group flying figh ters and bombers [(359.79 ±68.58)μmol/L,(368.89 ±72.35)μmol/L] were significantly higher than those of the aviators flying transports [(327.82 ±71.19)μmol/L] (P<0.05 and P<0.01) and helicopters [(330.36 ±58.67)μmol/L] (P<0.05).For the aviators of the normal BMI group, no differences could be seen in the UA levels .(2) There was high correlation between BMI and UA levels in the avi-ators with high BMI flying transports , fighters and bombers (P<0.05).And no correlation could be noted in those aviators with normal BMI (P>0.05).In the helicopter aviators with high normal BMI and normal BMI , there was no significant correlation between BMI and UA levels (P>0.05).Conclusion For the aviators with high BMI, high altitude flying operation had direct impact on the correlation between UA and BMI .High load and mental factor as well could evidently elevate the level of UA in the aviators with high BMI .Efforts should be made to detect the UA levels of the aviators flying different types of aircraft and good eating habits should be established .
