Abstract:
Objective To discuss the transfer of submarine casualties at sea and related points for attention, so as to improve the rate and ability of evacuating submarine casualties. Methods Analysis and summary were made by referring to the literature about emergency medical support at sea and the lessons learned from daily medical training and past large military exercises. Results Due to narrow and restricted deck spaces onboard the submarine, great difficulties were encountered in the transfer of casualties at sea.Strict demands were required on the methods of casualty transfer, as the sound-muffling structure of the submarine shell was vulnerable to damage with collision.Casualty transfer by boat and by ambulance helicopter were 2 optimal casualty transfer methods for casualties to be transferred from the submarine to the medical ship.Good coordination, clear responsibility and unified command were absolutely necessary for the success of casualty transfer. Conclusion In the casualty transfer from the submarine to the medical ship, boat transfer and ambulance helicopter transfer are 2 optimal methods for casualty transfer. At present, transfer equipment needs further improve-ment.Efforts are required on the part of research institutions to develop the suitable casualty transfer craft or transfer ladder directing at the features of the submarine deck, so as to improve the rate and safety of casualty transfer.Heavy-load ambulance helicopters will play a more and more important role in future submarine casualty transfer, so as to satisfy the demands of modern casualty care through the development and fielding of related medical evacuation systems.Task units should frequently organize and conduct drills of casualty transfer by boat and or by helicopter, so as to improve the capability of submarine casualty transfer and evacuation at sea.
