Abstract:
Objective To analyze the implementation of ocean-going medical missions performed by Ark-peace Hospital Ship and to investigate features of overseas medical missions both at peace time and war time. Methods The medical data collected from the 4 missions by the hospital ship were analyzed retrospectively. In accordance with differences in assigned missions ( friendly calls or dis-aster relief missions) , the organization of medical staffs and the distribution of disease categories in outpatients in different medical mis-sions were statistically analyzed, so that the differences and similarities in the requirements for personnel and supplies could be clearly identified. Results During friendly calls, the most frequent complaints from outpatients were commonly-occurred and chronic diseases, while during disaster relief missions, trauma, infection and epidemic prevention were the most commonly encountered problems. Conclusion In the implementation of different medical missions, staffing of medical personnel could vary with different missions and different categories of diseases.Proper medical staffing and adequate supplies of drugs and medical materials should be planned in de-tail, before prolonged deployment of the hospital ship at sea.
