Abstract:
Objective To compare the CT-based virtual colonoscopy and optical colonoscopy in a clinical setting. Methods Totally 20 patients were recruited and were subjected to optical colonoscopy and the polyp findings were recorded, and these patients were then immediately received thin-slice abdominal CT scanning and the data were acquired. Then the polyps in the virtual colonoscopy system were identified by both an experienced radiologist and a gastroenterologist. Results It was indicated that the virtual colonoscopy and optical colonoscopy had a similar sensitivity and specificity for polyps larger than 5 mm.Meanwhile, virtual colonoscopy needed a shorter examination time and the patients had a better patient experience than optical colonoscopy. Conclusion Virtual colonoscopy as a new screening method of colon lesions has a great advantage in detecting lesions larger than 5 cm,but not for a smaller one.
