Abstract:
Objective To explore the expression of Jagged1 protein in villi of first trimester spontaneous abortion and its effects on pregnancy. Methods Real-time fluorescence quantitative RT-PCR and Western-blot were used to detect the expression lev-els of Jagged1 mRNA and protein in villi obtained from 15 women with first spontaneous abortion and 20 normal first trimester pregnant women. Results The expression levels of Jagged1 mRNA in villi of first trimester spontaneous abortion were significantly lower than those of the normal first trimester pregnancy(P<0.05).Western-blot detection demonstrated that the expression levels of Jagged1 pro-tein in villi of the first trimester spontaneous abortion were lower than those of the normal pregnancy, but without statistical significance (P>0.05).Conclusion The expression levels of Jagged1 protein in villi of the first trimester spontaneous abortion tended to be down-regulated, which might be associated with the vascular malformation and hypoxia in trophoblast at maternal-fetal interface, thus inducing spontaneous abortion.
