Abstract:
Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of modified Shenping Decoction in the treatment of allergic rhinitis(AR)in children in Gui-Mao year,a stem-branch Chinese lunar year, based on the theory of five-circuit and six-qi theory. Methods Sixty children with AR of dryness-heat impairing lung type were randomly divided into the treatment group and the control group, with 30 cases in each group. The control group was treated with Cetirizine Hydrochloride Drops orally, and the treatment group was treated with modified Shenping Decoction combined with Cetirizine Hydrochloride Drops. The course of treatment for the two groups covered two weeks. The changes in the scores of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)syndrome, quality of life(QOL)rating scale, and visual analogue scale(VAS)for AR symptoms in the two groups before and after treatment were observed. After treatment, the efficacy for TCM syndrome in the two groups were evaluated.Results(1)After two weeks of treatment, the total effective rate of the treatment group was 93.33%(28/30),and that of the control group was 70.00%(21/30);the intergroup comparison showed that the TCM syndrome efficacy in the treatment group was significantly superior to that in the control group(P<0.05).(2)After treatment, the TCM syndrome scores in the two groups were significantly decreased when compared with those before treatment(P<0.01),and the decrease in the treatment group was significantly superior to that in the control group(P<0.05).(3)After treatment, the QOL rating scale scores of children with AR in both groups were significantly decreased when compared with those before treatment(P<0.01),and the decrease in the treatment group was significantly superior to that in the control group(P<0.01).(4)After treatment, the VAS scores for severity of symptoms(including four symptoms, namely sneezing, stuffy nose, runny nose, and itchy nose)in the two groups were significantly decreased when compared with those before treatment(P<0.01),and the decrease in the treatment group was significantly superior to that in the control group(P<0.01).Conclusion In Gui-Mao year, the application of Shenping Decoction combined with Cetirizine Hydrochloride Drops in the treatment of AR children dryness-heat impairing lung type can achieve significant clinical efficacy. The combined use has more advantageous than oral use of Cetirizine Hydrochloride Drops alone in improving the clinical symptoms and quality of life of the AR children.
