Abstract:
Colorectal cancer, including colon cancer and rectal cancer, is the second most common tumor in China, which requires comprehensive treatment by various methods, such as surgery, radiation therapy (radiotherapy), and drug therapy, among which radiotherapy is widely used in preoperative neoadjuvant therapy for rectal cancer, postoperative adjuvant therapy, postoperative recurrence therapy, and metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) therapy. With the development of radiotherapy technology, techniques such as magnetic resonance imaging guided radiotherapy (MRIgRT), carbon ion radiotherapy (CIRT), proton beam therapy (PBT) and stereotactic radiotherapy (SRT) have emerged. In this review, the applications of MRIgRT in preoperative radiotherapy for rectal cancer, CIRT in recurrent rectal cancer, PBT in rectal cancer, and SRT in mCRC were summarized with the aim of providing new ideas for the application of radiotherapy techniques in colorectal cancer.
