Abstract:
Theta burst stimulation (TBS) mode has been used in the treatment of various neurological and psychiatric diseases due to its advantages of low stimulation intensity, short stimulation time and strong effect. The TBS mode designed based on the neural metaplasticity theory can enhance its modulation effect on the brain, and has great application prospects in the treatment of diseases. In this review, the neural metaplasticity theory is firstly introduced, and then intermittent TBS (iTBS) mode and continuous TBS (cTBS) mode turn into the priming stimulus and the test stimulus. The iTBS-iTBS model, cTBS-cTBS model, iTBS-cTBS model, cTBS-iTBS model and other TBS models based on the neural metaplasticity theory were systematically and comprehensively summarized, and the current research status, existing problems and shortcomings of their effects on motor cortex excitability were analyzed respectively. The future developments in this field were expected to provide reference for the optimization of TBS model, improve the application effect of TBS model and promote its popularization.
