Abstract:
Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia(PJP)is a severe opportunistic infection that was previously more commonly observed in individuals with human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)infection. However, due to the widespread use of transplant techniques and immunosuppressive drugs,in recent years,PJP has been increasingly observed in immunosuppressed populations. The proportion of non-HIV-infected pediatric patients with PJP has been on the rise, with the disease often characterized by acute onset and rapid progression.Early prevention and treatment can significantly reduce morbidity and case fatality rate. However, reports on PJP in non-HIV-infected children remain scarce. This article reviews the etiology, epidemiology, diagnostic methods and treatment recommendations for PJP in non-HIV-infected children, aiming to enhance pediatrician understanding and recognition of PJP in this population.
