Abstract:
ObjectiveTo explore the risk factors for postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) in patients undergoing breast cancer surgery under general anesthesia. MethodsUsing univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses, we reviewed the medical records and anesthesia history of 530 patients who underwent breast cancer surgery under general anesthesia in order to identify the associated risk factors for their PONV. ResultsAmong the 530 patients, 101 suffered PONV, with an incidence rate of 19.06%. Multivariate analysis revealed the risk factors associated with PONV occurrence were preoperative fasting, anesthesia maintenance type, intraoperative hypotension, use of antiemetics, tramadol and postoperative opioids (P<0.05). ConclusionThe PONV incidence is significantly higher in those breast cancer patients with prolonged fasting before surgery, inhaled anesthetics, intraoperative hypotension or no use of antiemetics, tramadol and postoperative opioids.
