Abstract:
In recent years, Subthreshold Micropulse Laser (SML), as a new retinal laser treatment technology has gradually attracted the attention of clinical doctors. Repeated micro pulses can effectively activate retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells during the ON time, while also allowing for timely heat dissipation during the OFF time, avoiding tissue damage caused by excessive local temperature. Compared with traditional threshold laser (CTL), SML not only achieves therapeutic effects but also reduces related complications caused by laser thermal injury. Meanwhile, compared with intravitreal injection of anti vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), SML has advantages such as low cost and non invasiveness. Therefore, SML treatment is becoming one of the ways to treat various retinal and choroidal diseases. 577 nm SML is a common type of SML, and theoretically, this wavelength of laser has higher safety in the treatment of macular diseases. This review aims to summarize the application progress of 577 nm SML in common retinal diseases.
