- Abstract: Depression is a common mental disorder with an in-creasing incidence rate worldwide,which seriously endangers people's physical and mental health.Currently available antide-pressants focus on increasing the concentration of monoamine transmitters such as 5-hydroxytryptamine,norepinephrine and dopamine in brain,but most of them have low response rates and serious adverse effects.Hence,the treatment of depression re-mains as an unmet clinic need.In recent years,mounting pre-clinical studies and clinical trials suggest that potassium ion channels openers or antagonists have great potential in the treat-ment of depression.In this review the research progress on the therapeutic potentials of voltage-gated potassium channels and two-pore domain potassium channels against depression is sum-marized,which may provide new ideas for the development of novel antidepressants.
