Abstract:
Objective:To explore the real experience of older people in comprehensive geriatric assessment. Methods:This study was descriptive and qualitative. From January to April 2024, purposive sampling was used to select 17 older people who underwent assessment at the Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment Clinic of Beijing Hospital for semi-structured in-depth interviews. Colaizzi 7-step analysis method was used to analyze the data. Results:The experience of older people in comprehensive geriatric assessment were summarized into three themes, namely unclear expectations for medical treatment (limited understanding of comprehensive geriatric assessment and vague expectations for comprehensive geriatric assessment), positive medical experiences (comprehensive and objective evaluation of health status, acceptance of differences between comprehensive geriatric assessment and traditional medical services, meeting the active health needs of older people, and promoting health confidence), and development needs to enhance their perception of benefit (the need for detailed intervention guidance, continuous follow-up and tracking, and the need to improve medical accessibility) .Conclusions:Older people have insufficient understanding of comprehensive geriatric assessment, but their overall experience of comprehensive geriatric assessment is relatively positive. Medical and nursing staff should fully consider the needs of older people and promote the development of comprehensive geriatric assessment.
