Abstract:
Objective:To conduct a scoping review of the intervention content, outcome indicators and other aspects of the application of fully immersive virtual reality in elderly people with cognitive impairment, so as to provide reference for future research and clinical practice. Methods:Using the scoping review framework of the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) of Australia, we searched PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, APA PsycInfo, APA PsycArticles, ProQuest Health & Medical Collection, ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global, Web of Science, SportDiscus, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Wanfang Data. The search period was from the establishment of the database to April 20, 2023. The included studies were summarized. Results:A total of 19 articles were included, involving 6 randomized controlled trials and 13 quasi-experimental studies. The intervention content of fully immersive virtual reality included virtual reality scenes, task types, task content, intervention frequency and duration. The outcome indicators and effects were composed of the effectiveness and feasibility of fully immersive virtual reality applied in elderly people with cognitive impairment. Conclusions:The fully immersive virtual reality for elderly people with cognitive impairment has the characteristics of diversification and routinization, and has certain prospects. There is still a need for high-quality randomized controlled trials to evaluate the effectiveness and feasibility of fully immersive virtual reality in elderly people with cognitive impairment.
