Abstract:
Age-related macular degeneration(AMD)is a common irreversible blinding eye disease in the elderly char-acterized by choroidal neovascularization in the macular area.Thyroxine and its receptors are significantly expressed in the retina,and free thyroid hormones are closely related to the occurrence and development of AMD.This article summarizes the basic and clinical research progress of thyroxine in AMD,in order to provide scientific theoretical basis for further ex-ploring the pathogenesis of AMD and better prevention and treatment of the disease.
