Abstract:
Objective To explore the status and influencing factors of dignity among patients with terminal gastrointestinal malignant tumor. Methods From June 2016 to December 2017,We selected 240 inpatients of a Class Ⅲ Grade A hospital with terminal gastrointestinal malignant tumor as subjects by convenient sampling. The dignity of patients was assessed with the Patient Dignity Inventory (PDI) and its influencing factors were explored. Single factor analysis and multiple linear regression were used to analyze the influencing factors of patient dignity. Results The average score of dignity level of patients with terminal gastrointestinal malignant tumor was (58.43±15.43). Among the five dimensions, the scores of existential distress, symptom distress, social support, peace of mind and dependency were (16.13±4.61), (13.93±4.29), (7.38±1.53), (5.43±2.70) and (6.23±15.43) respectively. The main influencing factors of patient dignity included family monthly earning, whether to undergo surgery, whether to receive radiotherapy and chemotherapy as well as patients' physical agility (P＜0.05). Conclusions Patients with terminal gastrointestinal malignant tumor have the intermediate level of dignity, which should be paid attention to by medical staff. Medical staff should also formulate targeted intervention based on patients' actual situation to protect the dignity and improve the quality of life of patients.
