Abstract: Mandible defects caused by various reasons seriously endanger the physical and mental health of patients, and how to restore the appearance and function of the reconstructed mandible is the unremitting pursuit for surgeons.The current evaluation method for aesthetic appearance after mandible reconstruction mainly include: observer evaluation, patient self-evaluation, and medical imaging evaluation. But these method still have deficiencies, and there is no objective and consolidated evaluation system. How to establish an objective and effective appearance evaluation method is an essential part in the evaluation system of mandibular reconstruction. This study reviewed the development history of mandibular reconstruction, and also reviewed the evaluation method of physical appearance in different disciplines, aiming to provide a more comprehensive reference for the appearance assessment after mandibular reconstruction.
