Abstract: D-dimer is a fibrin degradation product. The increased D-dimer indicates hypercoagulability and secondary hyperfibrinolysis, which can be used as a biomarker for activation of coagulation and fibrinolysis system. D-dimer is routinely used in the diagnosis of thrombotic diseases. D-dimer level is affected by age, pregnancy, blood glucose, infection, liver failure, cancer and stroke. The increased D-dimer is closely related to kidney diseases. The paper reviews the formation mechanism and influencing factors of D-dimer, the relationship between D-dimer and kidney diseases, and the prognostic value of D-dimer in kidney diseases, to provide references for clinical diagnosis and treatment.
